Hi Friends,
We,
the members of 'Samaja Sevakara Samithi ®' have been involved with
a school in slum area of Girinagar. We
have been taking classes, conducting quizzes and many other educational
and cultural activities since Jan 2004.The academic result
of the students has not been improving despite consistent efforts of staff teachers
and some of our members. The reason behind this is lack of interest in students
towards learning, the reason for which is their family background. Students go
to work after their class hours for earning their livelihood. Some of them are
really good in learning but having no option to dedicate their childhood time
for supporting their families.
The theme behind this project is to provide these children some basic
facilities like toilets, library, books, writing materials etc etc. There
is not even a single toilet for students which is a must for any school however
bad it is in other respects.
The “Bhoomi Puja” festival for the construction
work in “Sri Ramakrishna School” was conducted on 16th September 2004. The function
was attended by the trustees of the school, SSS volunteers, children
and staff of the school. The function went on very well, photos of the same have
been embedded below, please have a look. One of the members in our group who is
working as a civil engineer came forward to help us in the construction work.
The cost for the construction of Toilets was approximately 1 Lakh rupees.
The construction work was fully completed on June 18, 2005 & the children started using the toilets after inagurating in the formal way. |
