SAKSHARA TUNGA

One of the main objectives of our group is to improve the education levels in our villages. As a result, we started 2 free schools of SSS in 2003.

It all started with the initiative of Mr. Veersingh Rathod, who happens to be president of Samaja Sevakara Samithi® and a resident of Linganayakanahalli. He completed his B.A in Bangalore and went back to village only to help villagers in educating their rights as citizens of India and facilities they are eligible as Indian citizens. His initiatives along with co-operation from few of his Grampanchayat friends helped in getting the roads tarred and many other govt facilities delivered to villagers.

He started free schools in the year 2003 with only 10 students by hiring 2 teachers, went through lot of financial crisis after running the school for 6 months and finally approached the members of SSS working in cities

From then onwards we are collecting funds every month to pay the salary of teachers, uniforms and books of students, construction of new class rooms.

“Sakshara Tunga” is now a model school in that area with 200+ children studying till 2nd standard. Parents and seniors in the village are co-operating by sending their children to schools. Still we feel there is lot of awareness creation needed about the importance of education

It's been 4 complete years after starting the "Sakshara Tunga" – free schools of SSS at Linganayakanahalli and Kuruvathi villages of Bellary
district. We started with 10 students and now there are around 215 students. Right now we are running LKG, UKG, 1 st to 4th standard classes.
The response of the parents and villagers has been very encouraging; the credit for all the success goes to teachers and volunteers of SSS.

Academic year 2007-08 has started in the month of June 2007. We have provided the new students with uniform, books and other necessary materials

The breakup of the expenses is as below:

1. Cost of two pairs of uniform Rs. 400 * 83 = Rs 33,200/-
2. Cost of a set of text books and notebooks Rs 150 * 83 = Rs 12,450/-
3. Sports materials/water filter/other miscellaneous materials Rs 50 * 83 =Rs 4,150/-
4. Annual bonus for teachers and maids Rs 500 * 83 = Rs 4,000/-

Total expenses for the academic year 2007-08 = Rs 53,800/-

We have invested money on the following items from past three years:

1. To get the Government approval for starting primary schools (Around Rs 20,000/-). Schools were approved in the month of May 2007
2. Monthly salary for teachers, maids and coordinator (Rs 12,000 * 30 months)
3. Sports material, black boards, uniforms, textbooks, almirahs (around Rs 25,000/-)
4. Conducting sports meet, school day programs for 2 years (around Rs 6000/-)

All these were possible because of YOU. We again request you to continue supporting us in this journey of knowledge spreading

We conduct 2-3 cultural programs every year. It includes individual and group performances by the students. Training will be given by teachers in dancing, music and acting. Villagers from surrounding villages consider these events as major programs. We have been successful in attracting people and showcasing the talents of their children in front of the village.

We accept contributions of all kinds, whether it's one-time or monthly or at any convenient mode of yours. Please contact Raghavendra on 9886683008 or Rajkumar on 9448171069 for further details.

We will take a decision based on the response. Please co-operate for this noble cause. Any other suggestion regarding this is also welcome.

After summarizing the contributions, the consolidated amount for each child is as follows:

1. Cost of a single child's eduction is Rs 1000/-
